Regional leaders and parliamentarians have marked the publication of Opportunity East: One Year On, a new report from Local Government East, the East of England All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), and regional partners, setting out how the East can accelerate delivery of the Government’s five missions if longstanding housing, health, and infrastructure challenges are addressed directly. The report was launched at a Parliamentary Reception on 19 November 2025.
The report positions the East of England as a national economic engine and a major driver of the clean energy transition, while warning that housing shortages, poor-quality homes, and persistent underinvestment in enabling infrastructure risk slowing progress for the region and the country.
The Westminster reception brought together parliamentarians and regional leaders around a single core message: the East of England is already delivering for the UK at scale, and could deliver more quickly with the right partnership and investment.
Speakers, including Cabinet Minister Baroness Smith, focused on the East’s contribution to national growth, food security, and clean energy delivery, and used the report launch to set out priorities for Government and regional partners to progress together over the coming year.
